MINOT, N.D. (KMOT) – UPDATE (6/4 at 5 p.m.): A backyard deck at a southwest Minot home caught fire Sunday afternoon.
Crews from all four Minot Fire stations responded to the fire shortly after 1:30 p.m. in the 900 block of 1st Ave SW.
The fire spread to the back of the home causing considerable damage, but crews were able to quickly knock down the flames.
Minot Fire said everyone who was inside was able to get out safely, and there were no injuries reported.
A neighbor who knows the family spoke with Your News Leader on what he saw and the actions he took.
“I just wanted to make sure everybody was okay, trying to get everybody out of the way, see if there was anything I could do to help out any of the first responders. And then this is a young family over there, so wanted to make sure the kids were okay,” said Jacob Davis, neighbor.
Battalion Chief Glen Hardy said a smoldering log caused the fire.
Hardy said the Red Cross has been notified and is assisting the displaced family. Davis said they’ll do what they can to help the family as well.
Paramedics were on scene as well, and water was provided for the first responders amid the high temperatures, while they battled the flames.
