BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) - UPDATE (6/5 at 5 p.m.): Bismarck Rural Fire and Bismarck Fire Departments responded to a brush fire Monday afternoon near Sertoma Park.

Bismarck Rural Fire Assistant Chief Brian Reinke said the fire was less than one acre and was extinguished using more than 100 gallons of water. Reinke said Bismarck Fire arrived first and used water can extinguishers. Bismarck Rural Fire and Bismarck Fire both sent brush trucks. Reinke said the cause of the fire is unknown and there won’t be an investigation since fire flare-ups are common in that area.

“We don’t really launch any kind of investigation unless there is somebody down there that we know for sure something happened. It is most likely a discarded cigarette, who knows,” said Reinke.

There was minimal damage only to some weed and swamp grass. The North Dakota Fire Danger Rating Map rated Burleigh County as having low fire danger Monday.
